Session 3 – Beginners Archery Course (Class 1)

This is the 1st class of the Beginners Archery Course (Session 3 – 2018). The course is comprised of 3 class lessons designed to get you started in the sport of archery the right way. Each class is 90 minutes in length and the cost for course is $75 per archer.

The Beginners Archery Course is open to all persons 8 years old and up and we encourage parents to shoot with their children as archery is a great FAMILY activity. Classes cover safety, the beginnings of the National Training System (NTS – formerly the B.E.S.T. method) and Olympic Archery recurve equipment. All equipment needed for the class will be provided.

Spring Papago 900 – May 12th, 2018 (Registration Open)

Registration has opened for the Spring 900 taking place on May 12th, 2018 at the Papago Archery Range. This annual tournament is  the perfect “first time” tournament for archers of all ages, especially the youth, and a fun shoot for any archer that enjoys a little friendly, outdoor target competition.

$50 for non-resident Master’s (no awards/titles given)

*Late registration fees have been waived as long as registration is received prior to 7am on April 13th.
PLEASE NOTE: Archers that register after April 9th may have to wait on receiving awards that are earned at the event. This is due to award ordering deadlines.

Onsite registration will NOT be accepted. 50% refunds after April 7th, 2018. NO REFUNDS after April 13th, 2018.

Tables & benches are available on site. Please bring additional chairs and canopies as needed. There will be water provided for archers and a concession stand will be available for drink & snack purchases.

*Parking is provided in the paved parking area adjacent to the range and in the additional parking lot located to the NE. All vehicles must be parked in one of the designated parking areas. No parking is allowed on unpaved surfaces.

FORMAT
900 Round on 122cm target faces for Recurve & Barebow divisions* – Archers will shoot three (3) rounds at three (3) different distances. Each round will be 30 arrows (5 ends of 6 arrows).  There will be a break between the middle and short distances.

*Bales with only compound archers will use (2) 122 cm five ring center spot target faces. Lanes will be identified when tentative lane assignments are posted.

*Compound Para-VI archer will shoot at 30m on 60/80/122 cm target faces.

Dress Code: Dress code that went into effect January 1, 2017 applies.

USA Archery Dress Code Policy 

The USA Archery Dress Code Policy applies to the following individuals when in front of the Spectator Line at USA Archery Sanctioned Events: (a) Athletes, coaches, managers, credentialed media, team officials, tournament officials, and archer agents.

Must present a professional, athletic appearance while on the field. (Torn, ripped or badly faded clothing articles are not allowed.) Clothing may be of any color, except as noted below.
No camo or blue denim (jeans) may be worn at target events. Accessories such as trim on shirts, caps, quivers, armguards, footwear, etc., are permitted to be camo. At field events, denim may be worn but camo may not be worn.
Shorts, skorts and skirts must not be shorter than fingertip length while standing normally. Leggings (tight fitting/yoga-type stretch pants) may be worn with compliant shorts, skorts or skirts.
Men and women are required to wear upper garments covering the front and back of the body and covering the midriff when at full draw. Women’s upper garments shall have a minimum strap of 3″ or sleeves. Men’s upper garments shall have short or long sleeves.
Shoes must cover the entire foot. Sport/athletic shoes are recommended to all athletes and coaches during target events.
At no time will any athlete or coach wear any article bearing any image or language to be considered offensive to others.

Camo Bows ARE ALLOWED

Championship Eligibility: USA Archery Membership listing Arizona as your residence is REQUIRED for you to be eligible for awards.  Guests are welcome to shoot the 900 rounds on Saturday, no award given.

AZ CUP Open Practice (Wednesday)

Papago Archery Association will be hosting an open practice for all AZ Cup registered participants and PAA club members. Stands, bales  and target faces will be available for all outdoor distances.

The range offers picnic tables, benches and a shade canopy. There is a handicap portable toilet on the grounds and a drinking fountain.

We recommend bringing your own water and sun protection.

There is no charge to come and practice, however, we ask for your consideration in making a small donation to our non-profit organization. It’s tax deductible!

Spring Barebow Shoot – Archery Poker

Join club member, Paul Wright, one of the previous winners for the quarterly shoot, as he challenges all barebow archers to a game of Archery Poker! Any barebow archers in the club are welcome and encouraged to join us for this upcoming fun shoot. Shoot recurve? No problem, remove your sight and stabilizers and join in on the fun too!

There is no fee to participate.

Open practice will begin at 8am and the official shooting and scoring will start at 9am.

March Pin Shoot (Outdoor)

Come out and shoot to earn your next pin!

The March monthly pin shoot will be held during regular club practice. This shoot is open to ALL Papago club members (with current memberships).  This club level shoot allows archers an opportunity to experience a mock round of a tournament.

ONLY Outdoor distances  will be shot during this pin shoot. Please arrive early enough to get equipment set up, warmed up and ready to begin official practice by 8:30AM.  **There will not be any make up arrows for late arrivals.

FORMAT
36 arrow round (6 arrows per end, 6 ends)
4 minute ends.
We will run an AB/CD line if necessary.
Whistle commands & timer will be used.

ADULTS / AAP
Barebow, Recurve & Compound archers will shoot at varying distances with 122cm  target faces.
Compound archers use an 80cm full size or 6-ring target depending on distance.

2018 AZ State Master’s Outdoor Championships

Papago is excited to be hosting the 2nd Annual State Championships dedicated to Master’s archers. This 900 round tournament will be held on April 14th, 2018 at the Papago Archery Range. Register today and try your hand at earning the title of State Champion of the Master’s Division.
