Papago 900 Arctic Challenge Recap & Results

2016-5

Archers competed in the 2016 Arctic Challenge this past weekend in weather that was far from challenging. Clear, sunny skies and temperatures in the 70s made this shoot one of the most enjoyable outdoor tournaments of the year.

Unfortunately, we didn’t have any first time competitors for this annual shoot. However, we did fill the shooting line with seasoned archers from around the valley.  12 different clubs were represented on Saturday at the Papago Archery Range. We are grateful to each of the archers and their clubs for the continued support throughout the year. Our tournaments wouldn’t be successful without all of the participation.

Thanks to a killer crew of volunteers & our coordinators, the tournament ran smoothly from set up to break down. Archers began shooting their first practice end at 9am and were walking away with awards around 12:30pm.

Highlights from the day include the top score of the tournament being shot by Waylon Hjerpe (Recurve Bowman Male) with a whopping 866! Kiel Amundsen shot an 858 (Compound Cub Male) and Dan Kolb (Compound Master 70 Male) rounded out the top three with an 856 . Richard Greiger & Walter Smith fought hard in the Compound Master 60 Men division for the Gold with only a single X determining the winner. Nice shooting guys!

Thank you to everyone that participated this past weekend to help make the Papago tournament a success (volunteers, parents, archers, coaches, etc) ~ we couldn’t do it without ALL of you!

A complete list of the archer’s scores from the tournament can be found here in the FINAL RESULTS .

PARKING UPDATE: Additional parking spaces will be available during the tournament. The unpaved lot located to the north of the existing lot will be opened and marked for parking. We ask that all spectators, families with multiple vehicles and able bodied participants,  park down in the lower lot near the baseball fields. PAA volunteers will be providing a shuttle service, free of charge, before & after the tournament for those that park in the lower lot. We’d like the closer parking spots to be available for our ‘seasoned’ archers, as well as those that have equipment, chairs, coolers, etc to transport to the range.
